Wear what you would wear to a face-to-face interview. If you wear a dress shirt and slacks, you probably would be fine, but you’ll be safer with a suit jacket. Women have more flexibility than men and should follow the guidelines in Chapter 9. For the videoconference, however, avoid a bright-white shirt, as well as stark patterns of stripes or plaids. A solid-color top is best. And for men, a dress shirt with an open collar (one button) and a jacket is better than a shirt and tie without a jacket. Also, wear your outfit all the way to your shoes, not just your upper half. There are some funny stories out there about half dressers who had to get up during the video call and then got caught.
